making meaning out of mottos

Motto Works

After the success of the first sculpture workshop at Dormers Well school, KICK sponsored a Motto Works event at Villiers High School in October 2016.

Sculptor Raj Dagstani held a week of after-school workshops with students from Villiers High School in Southall. The pupils were asked to produce sculptures based on the school motto, which was then showcased at an exhibition evening for family and friends.

The project was reported in the Ealing Times, as well as having its own site with snapshots of the workshop.

The pupils were utterly fantastic. They brought out the best in me as an artist and as a person and I hope and believe I was able to get the best of them in our short time together.

The work that has been produced has completely exceeded all expectations. I am very proud to of been part of this project and to have worked in such a wonderful school.
— Raj Dagstani
Raj was really great. He completely inspired us with the way he was so enthusiastic about the art project.

I learned so much in the week about art like how to make a 3D sculpture but more than that I learned to be confident with my art and to enjoy it. It was a great week.
— Student at Villiers
Raj has really inspired not just the pupils but the staff with his boundless enthusiasm.

These sculptures tell a wonderful story about our school and our community. Something we are all very proud of.
