Royal Blind Society Holiday

In 2009, KICK contributed to a programme of holidays for blind and physically disabled children run by the Royal Blind Society. The society's report, included below, describes the holidays and explains how they helped both the children and their parents.

2009 was the sixth consecutive year in which the Royal Blind Society has run a family holiday programme for children who are living with blindness and other disabilities.

For many of these children and their families it has been the first ever holiday and experience of being away from home apart from visits to hospital. It is hard to overestimate the value of the respite and relaxation that the week offers for the parents and other family members.

These holidays proved to be enormously successful once again. It was particularly pleasing that the Royal Blind Society was able to facilitate two extra weeks at these two specially adapted hotels, enabling a total of 41 blind and disabled children to enjoy such a special time with their families.
